End of the term

It's the end of my first term as a Public Relations Btech student, and I am scared as hell.

I've always been the type of person who works hard and achieves my goals, for the first time I feel like my hard work is not going to pay off.

However, even though this term has taken so much out of me I can truly say that I have learnt so much. I am able to reflet on the past few weeks and give my self a pat on the back, I've gotten through it and I've been able to keep up with many others in my class who have had three years more experience than I do.

So well done to me, I might not have been able to achieve everything I wanted to but I have achieved enough to get me through the next term and ultimately the year!

Here's to getting my degree in 2013 :) OH YEAH!

How do you step from the top of a 100-foot pole?

The answer to that is as easy two words...

... We don't!

Who in their right mind feels the need to step off a 100-foot pole (+30 meters)? I'm not suicidal, so I won't even try it.

I was trying to figure out the deeper meaning to this topic but I just really couldn't. Whatever I thought of just made me think that I might be influencing some one, who might just read this blog, into ACTUALLY stepping off a pole and killing him/herself.

I'm not going to be responsible for that. So my answer is what it is and it's going to stay that way!

That means, no one should be stepping off any poles, unless there is something solid for you to step on to (the ground at the bottom of the pole doesn't count).

An over rated friendship

I lost a very close friend this week, no she didn't die - we just aren't friends anymore. How juvenile right? I know...

Well, it's the wheel of life - you win some and then along the way some get lost.

I'm not complaining though, it was for the best.

I've always believed that in friendships you should never want to change each other (unless there is something seriously wrong with you like: you are on drugs or you are a disrespectful being). Anyway, I've just always believed that if you want to be my friend, you will have to accept me the way I am.

I'm not changing for any friend. My family love me to bites (I love them too :)) so don't you come in to my life and try to change me.

I'm not in the habit of trying to change people, so don't take your habit out on me! Find another project to work on!

So, I had an over rated friendship, I thought I needed a friend to make me feel valued... I was so wrong!

Here's to moving on with family and friends that love me just the way I am (",)

Enough said!

We are what we do ...

... or are we?

I think not! There are too many fake people in this world for everyone to be what they do.

What about that friend that claims to be your "best-i-est buddy" and then the moment you turn your back she goes and spills all your beans with the first blok that's willing to listen?

Then there's that guy that offers to buy everyone he works with a drink - awh cute, isn't he just the sweetest guy? Till he turns out to be the guy whose stealing from the boss. Not so cute now, is he?

I've had far too many experiences with the fake crowd to believe that we are all what we do.

As the saying goes: Don't judge a book by its cover!

Get to know the person, and find out if they are really sincere; before you begin to think that the sun shines out of his/her ***!

Living with a skin disease

I am a 22 year old female with acne, on days when my skin doesn't work with me, my confidence is affected in a negative way - I find it hard to interact with other people. However, I have come to realise that what I have to deal with can't hold a candle to what people with HI (Harlequin Ichthyosis) are faced with every waking moment.

Hunter Steinitz, a 14 year old girl from the USA, suffers from HI. She has to undergo a tedious regime every morning just to ensure that her skin doesn't crack, or that she doesn't get any infections. Her skin can't fight against bacteria or viruses because it doesn't have any moisture in it.

One would never think that something as simple as moisture could have such an effect on your every day life. To find out more about her life story and how she is fight this horrid disease please watch this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H4a18xBtVE. Be warned you are a sensitive viewer you shouldn't try to watch it.

Thank you Hunter, for making me appreciate who and what I am, and helping me realise that we are capable of anything if we believe it!

I love me :) and that's enough!

That's me enjoying Table Mountain (PS this is not a fake look in the distance, I was actually looking that way)

That's me being boring

We are afraid of the wrong things

As woman, we are known to be fearful beings. This should not be so, anymore.

I am fortunate enough to have been brought up in a home where women and men have equal rights, where women are taught to stand up for themselves. I am a true example of this teaching. I may not have everything in the world - all the money and jewels - but I do have integrity and I will not let any man take that away from me.
Women of the new generation should not put their dreams or desires on hold for any man, unless there is a valid excuse, and his ego is not one of them!
Don't be afraid of chasing your dreams, don't be afraid of applying for that "top" job you've always wanted!
Women can do whatever men can do, if not better! Let that be a fact!
Men, I respect you as well, but don't stand in our way!

You are not a fashionista

Okay, so a few people have complimented you on a couple of ensembles you put together? WELL DONE! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this does not make you a fashionista nor does it give you the right to blog about your fashion sense and tell people what to wear.

yet-another-fashion-blog.blogspot.com

I blame these want-to-be-fashionitas for the disastrous state some unknowing victims find themselves in. These victims take advice from these ‘fashionistas’ who don’t know the first thing about how to dress females/males according to their size, age and height.

I’m no expert on the matter - that’s why I don’t have a blog about it. These ‘fashoinistas’ have no real value to add to conversations, but they are hell-bent on having their voices heard, so they turn to a fashion blog.

studentfashionblog.co.uk

I have nothing against anyone who loves fashion, personally I love it too, colour-blocking, nomad, rock glam and nautical you name it, and I've done it all. Hell, I used to be the Public Relations Practitioner for Traffic Clothing, but I know I'm no fashionista.

I stick to what I know and what I've mastered. These ‘fashionistas’ should do the same!

Fish falling from the sky

In the past you were considered rich if you had a roof over your head and your basic needs were met. Something as simple as fish could be considered wealth, money didn’t exist and trade and exchange was the only means used to get what you need.

In this sad era, we have moved far past being satisfied with what we need, we want what we desire even if we can’t afford it.

What a bunch of lost cases we all are!

We feel unworthy of being a part of a conversation with wealthy people, and because we don’t have what they have, we feel intimidated and small.

The new generation needs to learn the basic characteristic of self-worth. We shouldn’t be characterised by how much money we have - rather, we should be defined by what value we can add to our dismantled world. So much needs to be done, let’s not stand on the side lines, and let a low bank balance stand in the way of us doing good. Let’s begin to help!

Get involved and start building a nation of self-worth and not a nation money-worth.

Appreciate the finer things in life. If fish should fall from the sky we shouldn’t turn it into a scientific research project - we should feed the hungry.

Peace be with you

Nelson Mandela is almost 100 years old, why can South Africa not let him go?

If you have already lived for 93 years, how many more years would you like to stick around for? My answer would be: not many.

I am sure that by the age of 93 you have lived a full life, especially a man like Madiba, who has managed to shape a country of disrepute into a country of democracy and respect. He is a hero to so many people, he gave many South Africans a freedom, they have never known.

I respect a man of his stature! He is South Africa’s hero.

However, it is time for South Africa to let him free again. Let’s not be afraid of what the future holds without him, rather, let us have faith that his legacy will live on and that South Africa will grow in his imagine.

What is the colour of the wind?

The mood you are in is determined by the colour of your wind.

Think about those days when you wake up with a smile of your dial, when you walk down the road with a spring in your step, and when you are smiling and you think the entire world is smiling back at you. Those are the days we all feel we can conquer the world.

They are also the days when you choose only the best colours for your wind: the richest greens, the warmest yellows, the softest pinks and the freshest blues.

We all love these days.

Then you think about those days when you wish you didn’t have to get out of bed, when you feel absolutely NOTHING is going your way, when you put on your newest shirt and mess coffee on it right before you walk out of the house, and you forget whether you looked your car and have to turn back to check.

It’s these days that we choose the gloomy colours, like: the yucky browns, the dark blacks and the dull greys.

The next time you are feeling down and overwhelmed make a conscious decision to choose only the good colours for your wind, think about the positive things in your life and know that however cheesy it may sound, the sun will come out tomorrow.
