Linken Park... What happened?

Excited fans have been waiting for months for the day to finally arrive, and finally it has, Linkin Park has come to Cape Town. The atmosphere was filled with thrill and anticipation, and when the show kicked off everyone sang along and enjoyed song after song. Sadly, unbeknownst to all the LP’s beloved fans another fan had lost her life just outside. After the Cape Town wind began blowing, it just didn’t stop, and was further the cause of the loss of a life.
As they say: The show must go on, and so it did!
A bittersweet experience for those fortunate enough to attend the concert J

7de Laan????

I do not understand the fuss about this ridiculous soapie, I find myself having to watch it ever so now and then when my parents force me too, and although I only watch it now and then the plot never seems to improve. It is just unacceptably predictable and sad! Can someone please explain how it stays on the air, and still has so many people tuning in?

Please note that I do understand and speak Afrikaans so it has nothing to do with the language.

ABBA!

Everyone always has a good laugh at me when I say I thought that ABBA was a hit in my day, added to this my favourite song ABBA is non-other than DANCING QUEEN J
And here are the lyrics for you –
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the dancing queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/a/abba/dancing+queen_20002554.html ]
You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the dancing queen

You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave them burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the dancing queen

The last lecture

Today was my last lecture after an enjoyable and educational BTech year. I have learned so much during the course of this year and do not regret taking the risk and opportunity to become a student again. I have done so much during this year and in hindsight I can definitely say that I will a life-long learner. After this it’s a short course in a little bit of this and a little bit of that and there after it is me against my Masters! YEAH looking forward to that!
What a great year! Thank you to everyone for joining me on this gorgeous journey.

Dr. Gordon Livingston was a US author and psychiatrist, who wrote a critically acclaimed book called: Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart, wherein he discusses 30 truths or life lessons. He believed that every individual is in control of his/her destiny, despite their past or current situation. The fourth chapter in his book was called 'The statute of limitations has expired on most of our childhood traumas' (Thomp, 2011).
This is exciting to know, as we all have things in our past which we feel might come back to bite us in the ass one day. So now thanks to Dr Gordon Livingston, there is a greater understanding that no matter what trauma you might have gone through in your past you now have the power to control your destiny and move up and on to greatness!

The power is in your hands! Do not let past traumatic events affect the success you are destined to achieve!

If I could get a message to a large group of people…

I am always grateful to my Heavenly Father for granting me the opportunities that he has given me as well as the grace that He grants me each and every day. I am also grateful that one day I will meet Him and spend an eternity with Him, nothing could be better than that, no matter how wonderful your life may be on this earth, nothing can compared to what awaits you.
It is for this reason that I would like everyone to experience this same feeling that I do. Furthermore, I would like to spread this message to as many people as I can. Everyone needs to know the joys of knowing The Lord!

How old would I be if I didn’t know how old I was?

Well, I am a tiny little person, who has been mistaken for a younger version of myself far too many times. So, if one day I woke up and couldn’t remember how old I was or anything about myself I would be added to my own list of ignorant fools who accuse me of being younger than what I am, or compared me to someone far younger than me. Shame on those people!

On the flip side of that coin, I do believe that if I looked at my mind and how I deal with situations, I would probably be about ten years older than what I am. That’s probably because I’ve always be surrounded by people older than me, and my father has always tried to instil in his children, the attributes of an old soul.
So, basically, physically I am a teenager, and mentally I am an old woman. Lol J

Of all the forms of courage the ability to laugh is the most…

Encouraged! When you are faced with diversity or unexpected personal situations where you are faced with negativity, it is only the bravest of hearts that have the courage to laugh at themselves and move on. So, when you are put in a situation where people are under-minding you, always remember your potential and laugh the negativity off. When you possess the power to laugh you have the courage to succeed!

Only bad things happen quickly

I have to agree to disagree with this statement; of course we know that many good things take time to happen. So in terms of this statement I would have to say it all depends on the situation and which good things you would like to happen to you. Some of the best things in life happen at an unexpectedly rapid pace. However, it must be said that one should never just expect good things to happen to you. Hard work and dedication is what is required in order to achieve success! Don’t doubt yourself; anything is possible with the right attitude and enough hard work! BE BOLD!

Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid

The author Basil King, once said this when he spoke about overcoming fear, and I must say that I completely agree with him. However, I must add that one should not be bold in situations which do not require boldness, don’t be bold just to be bold. Be bold when the situation calls for your boldness. For the public relations BTech’s, I say that now you are required to be bold! So go out there, be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid! The future is now!

Striking Miners

This year miners have been striking like there is absolutely no tomorrow, it’s put a huge dent in our economy and affected the positive imagine South Africa has been trying to build. I know that South Africa isn’t perfect, so why make matters worse? I also know that miners sacrifice their lives going underground to do what they do, I’m afraid of tight spaces so rather them than me. However, I have been studying my ass off making major sacrifices and costing my parents thousands of rands. This is why these strikes are frustrating me, I once heard someone say: If you work now you’ll play later and if you play now then you’ll work later. That’s the case here, miners need to work hard because they never furthered their education, so how can they expect to get paid more than people who have their degree? Honestly, it’s just not fair! Make the sacrifices then make the money.

I’m sure many people will think I am rude for what I’ve just said but if you think about it rationally you’ll see that I am right.

Blog on request – Trends for Summer 2012/2013

Please remember that I am no expert! So don't judge!

Like it stated in a previous blog, I dislike people who blog about fashion when they are not qualified to do so, however I have been requested to let my readers know what the summer trends for summer 2012/2013 are. I am not a professional but here we go:

  • Mixing prints are absolutely the ultimate fashion trend for 2012/2013… beware that many people have failed miserably, make sure that your prints are in the same colour plate and that your accessories accent your colour plate as having a different colour accessory will make your outfit too busy
  • Floral prints are back and are really pretty. It gives any lady that much desired feminine look, just make sure that if you have  a load bottom or top that the rest of your outfit is plain, as not to scare or blind anyone
  • Printed pants, this is a huge item this season but needs to be worn correctly, you could try a printed skinny jeans or a loose pant or a flimsy skirt but which ever you choose make sure that the rest of your outfit flows and is not too busy
  • Pastel colours, this is one of my favourite looks for summer, its inspired by the 50’s marshmallow look. It’s a fun look so make sure you can mix and match your colours. This trend is a play on the colour blocking trend of last 2011/2012.
  • Cropped cardigans. If you have the body for this then by all means go for it! It’s sexy and cute at the same time. I will advise that this does not work with every body type so ask for others opinions before you purchase.
  • For men, well can you believe it the man neck scarf in back in business?  I’m really not sure how I feel about this. I saw my brother wearing it the other day and didn’t like it at all, however if you are bold enough for it then why not?
  • Yellow is big for men, I’ve seen many men rocking yellow socks and jeans and it looks great!
  • Looks like summer is going to be fun! I’m looking forward to it, hope I can make some money to get my hands on at least some on these trends.

YEAH! I can't wait for summer!

I love this book…

Recently I read the book: Drifting South by Charles Davis, it’s an amazing story of man on a journey of discovery. This story begins in a heart-breaking style - this made me not want to finish it, but it’s also the factor that kept me reading on and on. I felt for the lead and couldn’t stop reading until I knew that he was going to be just fine… I don’t want to give away too much but it’s an incredible journey with lessons and hardship.

Give it a read, I let out a sigh of relief when I was done, let me know what happens when you read it…

As promised: Lyrics of my favourite phantom of the opera song

Lyrics of: All I Ask of You

(Raoul)
No more talk of darkness
Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you

Let me be your freedom
Let daylight dry your tears
I'm here, with you, beside you
To guard you and to guide you

(Christine)
Say you'll love me every waking moment
Turn my head with talk of summer time
Say you need me with you now and always
Promise me that all you say is true
That's all I ask of you

[Raoul]
Let me be your shelter
Let me be your light
You're safe, no one will find you
Your fears are far behind you

[Christine]
All I want is freedom
A world with no more night
And you, always beside me
To hold me and to hide me
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/p/phantom_of_the_opera/all_i_ask_of_you.html ]
[Raoul]
Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Christine, that's all I ask of you

[Christine]
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Say the word and I will follow you

[Both]
Share each day with me, each night, each morning

[Christine]
Say you love me

[Raoul]
You know I do

[Both]
Love me, that's all I ask of you.

(They kiss. Raoul lifts Christine off her feet, into his arms and holds her)

[Both]
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Love me, that's all I ask of you

[Phantom]
I gave you my music, made your song take wing.
And now, how you've repaid me, denied me and betrayed me.
He was bound to love you, when he heard you sing.
(sobs)Christine, Christine.

[Both]
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Say the word and I will follow you
Share each day with me, each night, each morning...

[Phantom]
You will curse the day you did not do all that the Phantom asked of you!

Phantom of the Opera

If you are an Atherton in Cape Town, you can be assured that music is in your blood. We absolutely adore music in all its classical and blissful ways (all music except the new age genres). This leads me to the reason for my blog, my unconditional love for the movie the Phantom of the Opera. Whether we consider the leads or the set or the sounds, it all amalgamates into an amazing feast for the eyes! I could watch it over and over. If you have a love for real music, I would advise you to watch this movie; I assure you that you won’t regret it!

Catch my next blog a lyrics of my favourite song from this movie.

I think it so thrilling to play the motherly role without actually having to be the mother. Last weekend I became a godmother, it is such an amazing feeling knowing that I have been chosen to fulfil such an important role! WOW! My godchild becomes more gorgeous every day. I don’t get to see her as often as I would like but when I do get to see her I am amazed at her growth and how much she has changed. Becoming a godmother is such a blessing; it has made me even more anxious to become a mother myself, although I know that it needs to wait.

My godchild has the most gorgeous name: Rachel and she is as gorgeous as her name and as strong as it too. Rachel means: ewe, the female sheep or the one with purity.

I am looking forward to many years of love and fun with the one with purity!

Camping with the family

That's not the entire family

This year has been full of ups and downs, but one thing that has kept my Sunnyside up is my family. Though there are many times when we argue and get on each other’s nerves, they are the people I love spending my time with. It’s strange how when you are young your family is your everything and then you hit those middle years and you drift away, your friends become your family and then all of a sudden, without you even noticing, it your family is back at your centre. I believe that your family is given to not only to be there as you blood relatives but also as your friends.

Going away for the weekend with my entire family has made me realise just how important they are too me! I love them more than I can say and thank God for bringing them into my life, or rather me into their life.

If not now, then when?

Many people ask this question but “now” is not always the right time to do everything, in fact something’s should never be done at all. Many things, especially the important things, take time and preparation, it doesn’t happen overnight. In this rushed world that we live in, many people feel that they don’t have time to waste because everything is moving too fast. Well, to those people I say: “Never rush perfection, everything that we require in life will be given to us as long as we work hard and do everything we can to make it a reality!”

So, my answer is: if something can’t be done now, then more preparation needs to take place and the individual needs to realise that the right time will come. We don’t need everything right away.

Hiking with my loved one

I absolutely love being outdoors, even though I have little time to spend there. Every opportunity I get I take. Recently I went on a hike with my boyfriend – it was such fun. We woke up early the morning, packed our bags with water and other refreshments and hit the road. When you got to our hiking spot the air was still fresh and it felt like to we were miles away from the busy city life. We breathed in the fresh air and began our journey up the mountains. We saw so many things and even though we got tired we carried on and enjoyed the peaceful moments with nature.

Nothing beats spending time with the ones you love and Mother Nature!

Watch this space

Yes you read correctly! You need to watch this space, this space refers to me. I am destined for greatness and it is going to happen very soon! I have been working hard, making sacrifices and learning new things with only one goal in mind: GREATNESS! I cannot wait for the day I receive my degree and walk into the job of my dreams. I know for sure that this is not going to be an easy task but I have worked hard my entire life do not intend to stop anytime soon!

Greatness is something you achieve, not something you receive!

That's me on my way to greatness!

My favourite Cat in the Hat book is …. Because…

This is an easy blog…

I’ll have to start reading them in order to answer this question. I went to a school where we weren’t lucky enough to read those books… I think I’ll read them now, as an adult :)

Why I have conversations?

When I was asked this question I was puzzled, and it got me thinking… Why exactly do I have conversations?
I realised:
  1. Sometimes I have conversations cause the awkward silence becomes too loud
  2. Sometimes I just want to get to know someone
  3. Sometimes I can’t wait to tell someone something
  4. Sometimes I just feel like hearing what others have to say
  5. Sometimes I’ll have a conversation with myself, just to understand what I’m thinking
  6. Sometimes I want to learn
  7. Sometimes I just need to talk for no reason
  8. Sometimes I just want to prove a point

  5. Have two children, one girl and one boy
  6. Go sky-diving
  7. Go skiing
  8. Learn to surf
  9. Design a fashion collection
  10. Go shark diving
  11. Go snorkelling
  12. Go to Thailand
  13. Go to Paris
  14. Work overseas
  15. Cut all my hair off
  16. Plan a huge event!
  17. Wax my entire body
  18. Start going to gym
  19. Start eating healthy
  20. Live in a huge house
  21. TRAVEL, TRAVEL and more TRAVELLING

For now that’s what I’ve got, I’ll add to it as the years progress...

My big fat BIG dream!

Yes of course I have one of those! One should always invest in a big dream!
I am a realist so it may not be too out of the box, but it's GREAT enough for me! One day, once I have travelled and worked, I would like to start my own company with my brother, sister and boyfriend! The company will consist of:
  • -          Public relations – that’s my department
  • -          Marketing – that’s my brother’s department
  • -          Event and project management – that’s my sister’s department
  • -          Advertising and web design – that’s my boyfriend’s department

I am sure that this is going to be a winning combination! I am so looking forward to it! One more thing – I know that it is going to be a HUGE success!

Anyone willing to invest?

Conventional is a good fall-back position isn’t it?

When you have no other option than being conventional and stuck in your square, which has worked for you thus far, then it should be a solid fall-back position.

On the other hand, I don’t think that it should be your first choice. When you are young, like me, you need to take chances and calculated risks. You need to try new things and decide what works for you and what doesn’t. When you are young you shouldn’t be afraid to try new things and live life to the fullest.
I took a risk and I can say that thus far it has worked out perfectly! It is unconventional, and only if there is no other option will I ever go back to my conventional fall-back position!

You?

You cannot chase two rabbits at the same time…

… or so they say.

I have experienced the nasty pain of this once before. I was chasing my dream of becoming a public relations professional, can’t wait for that dream to become a reality, and while chasing that dream it seemed that I lost so many aspects of my personal life along the way. My studies were blossoming and I was enjoying every moment of it, however I lost so many friends, friends that I thought would be a part of my life forever. It is sad to think about the difficult decisions which had to be made. Although, there are many days when I still feel sad, and I miss my friends terribly, I have to trust the Lord that I have made the right decisions and that it will all be worthy it in the end.

So, however much I wanted to catch both rabbits, in my personal and professional life… I had make a decision.

When choosing which rabbit to chase, make sure that you think about it before you decide. Remember that the chances of ever catching the other rabbit are slim to none.

Plans for the future

The year is drawing to a close and it is time to start putting the gears into motion. It’s time to start thinking about what I need to do in order to ensure a prosperous future for myself.

I have been an intern far too many times, three times to be exact. The thought of being an intern again next year is making me feel sad, I would like to start my “real” job and get my life on track. I am 22 years old and soon I will need my own car, my own little place with my own little everything.

Right now I am doing as much as I can to certify that I become the great Public Relations professional I am destined to be. By the grace of God and through His guidance all things are possible.

So, I am going to start job-hunting right away! Big, dangerous world – here I come! I am ready, are you?

accidentalintentions.wordpress.com

Nothing more dangerous than an idea, when you have one idea…

Generally, when you are put into a situation where you either: fear for your life, fear for the life of someone you care about, or are going to loose something that you have work exceedingly hard on; and there is only one solution to the problem -  you usually go with it. Sometimes it’s a great idea other times it’s a ridiculous one. When it’s the latter there is a vast possibility of failure, but you take that risk anyway (as non-calculated as it may be).  Then… you pray, and hope for the best.

Not having a plan B or second option may have the most unwanted and dangerous outcome! Therefore, never go into a situation without having a backup plan or without noting the strengths and weaknesses of your plan. If your plan has a few holes in them, work on it before you do something you might someday regret.

My boyfriend is an artist

We are as different as night and day, but at time we are like two peas in a pod (yes, yes a cliché I know). He is the creative one, who is able to: paint, design, develop and create whereas I am the one who: reads, over-thinks and writes. In many ways these two forms of writing and artistry are similar, both needing inspiration and creativity. However, when we were put to the test it was obvious how different we were.

The test we took was one of those pictures of cows with the word fish inside (there are many other examples). When asked what we see I said: “I see the word fish”. He said: “I see a cow”.

We had a great laugh about this, showing how different we see things. But when we compare our way of thinking we are completely similar.

He is the paint, I am the paint brush and the world is our canvas.

My boyfriend painted this... Ag, he is too talented lol :)

If I want to be like anyone, it's you!

My grandmother is the most exemplary person in my life; she is as innocent as an angel and as sweet as a Sweeti Pie (that’s chocolate filled with a yummy, soft and delicious centre – for those of you who have never heard of it).

I can’t see how anyone could ever live up to the holy standard she sets. I am sure that in her past she has made mistakes , as everyone does, but at the age of 86 she has learned from all of them and is teaching her children, grandchildren and great grandchild how to be an example to others.
There is no one I would want to be like more than my grandma, with more money in my bank account of course.

I am...?

As Eminem so rightly put it: I am whatever I say I am!

Right now, I am a journalism graduate who is working hard to complete my degree in public relations. I am a New Apostolic Christian, I am a motivator, I am a friend and I am more than I can explain in words. Everyone might not believe it but I feel strongly that I have the power to be whatever I want to be and what I want to be is: a successful public relations professional, with a balanced between: work, family fun, and faith!

Lamebook

This is one of the funniest websites I’ve ever come across. I’ve been visiting this website since 2008 and have enjoyed the humour of Facebook users mistakes and stupidity ever since.

Social media should not be taken lightly, it is a mirror of the person that you are or would like to be. If what your viewers are seeing is not of a dignified standard, you will be judged, be sure of that. And, if you are really unlikely you’ll end up on Lamebook for everyone to laugh at.

My 15 minutes of fame

Andy Warhol said, “In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes.”

I was asked: You can’t choose the 15 minutes but why would you be world famous? Here’s what I think.

I am and never will aspire to be like any so-called-famous person. Those who have been chosen by other people to be the elite of this world have hardly done anything to astound me. Singers, dancers and actors/actresses are just normal people like you and me, thus I will not put them on a pedicle. However, if I were to be famous for at least 15 minutes in my lifetime it would be for something worth while, like helping to save a country from starvation… now that’s something cool … at least to me it is.

And you?

I don't wanna be famous!

Smiling really does help

So here I am, sitting at home and feeling a little down because I am due to go back to CPUT in only a few days. So, I decided  to tweet. However, before I could tweet about how sad I was that I would have to start stressing again, I came across a tweet which said: even a fake smile releases happy endorphins and makes you feel happier, even if you are not in the mood to feel happier.
Well, I tried it and it actually works! I genuinely feel happier! What happens is: when you have a fake smile, that actions tricks your brain into thinking you are happy, eventually you begin feel happier.
The human anatomy  never fails to amaze me!

A skill set called leadership.

Leadership has and will always be an imperative characteristic in any good manager, leader or director. Furthermore, it is an important characteristic for anyone to have. You never know when you will be faced with a challenge where you will have to take charge and be a leader.
Other characteristics which are important in any leader are:
-       Efficient
-       Deadline driven
-       Productive
-       Creative
-       Knowledgeable
-       Trustworthy
-       Organised
One other characteristic which can be a blessing and a curse is OCD and perfectionism. When you have these characteristics you are able to produce work of a high standard, however you are likely to suffer from ridiculous stress levels and fear.
Being a perfectionist can get you very far in the world, and perfectionist are generally the greatest leaders.

Lexical gap

Have you ever tried to express yourself, but there is just NO word to describe how you are feeling?  I know that all to well, I have suffered from that far too often, it might be because my vocabulary is slightly limited. However, lexical gap is an existent and genuine problem, which is the technical term for this.
Feminist believe that women suffer from this frequently as the English language was developed by men, and they did not take women’s emotions and feelings into consideration. This is why they believe that we often suffer from the lexical gap.
It is for this reason that many feminist believe the English language needs to be redeveloped. Personally, I think that’s a big joke! Why would we need to do that? Yes, SOMETIMES struggle to find a word to describe what we are feeling BUT the English language is sufficient and does not need a replacement.
What are your thoughts?

What'cha say about Rock Journalism?

Being asked to comment on the legendary quote by Frank Zappa where he said:  [Most] Rock journalism is people who can’t write interviewing people who can’t talk for people who can’t read, got me thinking about the 21st century musicians.
Zappa was quoting during an interview with Bruce Kirkland, a writer for the Toronto Star newspaper and writers have agreed he doesn’t like many people and doesn’t leave much room for people to like him. During the time of “music journalism/ rock journalism” journalists where criticising musicians and their music, this made it hard for musicians to interact with them or response positively towards them.

However, he used these words to express that musicians [rock] musicians speak on behalf of the masses that don’t have the platform to do it themselves. It is scary to think that in today’s society those who are speaking on behalf of those who don’t have the platform to do so, are freaking insane people, and are no example to any one! If only being on drugs was the only issue we were faced with, in terms of our “celebrities”.
It is most certainly a scary world.
Is this what our children are going to aspire to be?

Puma and Adidas

I just came across an interesting fact – it is an old one though – that the inventors of two of the world’s leading sports brands: Adidas and Puma were actually brothers. The brothers Rudolf and Adolf Dassler started as designers of footwear and decided to specialised in athletic footwear.

Soon the brothers could no longer agree on the image of the company nor on politics or anything else for that matter. Due to their lack of agreement they decided to dissolve the partnership and start separate companies. This is how Adidas (brainchild of Adolf Dassler) and Puma (brainchild of Rudolf Dassler) were born.
